Tommy Koh

Tommy Koh Thong Bee has been educated at Singapore, Harvard University (masters degree in Law) and Cambridge University (post-graduate Diploma in Criminology). He was conferred a full professorship in 1977 and was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from Yale University in 1984.

Professor Koh is the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Singapore from 1971 to 1974. He is Singapore's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, from 1968 to 1971 and again from 1974 to 1984 (concurrently accredited as High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador to Mexico). From 1980 to 1982, he is President of the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea. In 1984 he becomes Ambassador to the United States. In 1990, he is appointed Director of the Singapore Institute of Policy Studies. Currently Ambassador-at-large, he becomes Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Foundation in February 1997.
