Tan Kong Yam

Tan Kong Yam was born in Singapore. Dr. Tan studied at Princeton University (USA) and Stanford University (USA) where he graduated with a Ph.D in 1984. He then joined the China division of the World Bank before being appointed Assistant Director to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (1984-1986) as well as a Board Member of the Central Provident Fund, a position he will keep until 1996. From 1986 to 1993, he is Director (Economic Research) and Chief Economist at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. He is currently Head of Department of Business Policy at the Faculty of Business Administration at National University of Singapore.
