Kamil Jaafar.

Kamil Jaafar was born in 1937 in Kedah. He is a graduate of Malaya University. In 1961, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Assistant Secretary. In 1962, he was assigned at the Malaysian Embassy in Thailand, then in 1967, to the Malaysian Embassy in Germany, as First Secretary. In 1968, he was Minister Counsellor at the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore. In 1970, Director-General ASEAN, within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1972, he was assigned Deputy Permanent Representative of the Malaysian Mission to the United Nations (New York). In 1975, he became Ambassador to Thailand, then Ambassador to Vietnam (1878), to Switzerland and Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations Office in Geneva (1980), Ambassador to China (1983), to Japan (1986). From 1989 to 1996, he was Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1996, he was appointed Special Envoy to the Prime Minister.
